A thank you from Crista

To all of you creative wonderful giving members of this group. I am so excited to announce we have reached $45,000 in sales for Life Support Japan. Bravo to all of you for such beautiful work, for supporting this important cause and being part of this amazing community of artists. We are so close to our goal of $50,000, I want to thank all of you for being part of this cause.

Because we are so close to our goal - I am closing the submission door for this print sale on April 1st. I plan to do one more release of work on Wednesday April 6th. If you haven't submitted yet, or want to have someone submit please let them know that after Friday night at midnight I am closing that door. We have almost 100 artists still to get through, and I can't have more submissions coming in after Friday.

While I would love for this to be ongoing, I have to get back to my day job, which I love.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You have made this such an amazing experience, I am so proud to be part of this community.

Guidelines and Information for those who have sold prints...

Thank you so so much for the gift of your time, beautiful work and support for the people of Japan. We are so heartbroken over what has happened, and feel like we can make a significant contribution with our project. With your help we have raised over $20,000 to date with more coming in everyday. This horrific event has galvanized our community and helped create something amazing.

Here is what we need from you:

1.Please send the prints to Wallspace in Santa Barbara :

2. Here is the provenance information (what goes on the back of the print). Be sure to add the Life Support Japan, so it doesn't affect any of your other prints, and can be tracked as a donation/no value print. Please use pencil and write below the image if possible.

Life Support Japan

3. If you have any additional information you would like us to pack with the prints, bio, statement, thank you note, please ship it with the prints so that we may send it all together.

You will be receiving a thank you + receipt for your records for the tax deduction for the benefit. You can include the costs of paper, ink, the sleeve, and shipping in the amount.

Please make an effort to send the prints within the next 2 weeks. The sooner we receive them, the sooner we can turn them around quickly to the purchasers.
When you have shipped your prints, please send me an e-mail with SHIPPING INFO in the subject line, letting me know a tracking number or the date you sent via USPS.

My appreciation for your incredible generosity has no limits. Thanks again for everything you have done for me, the gallery and the people of Japan.

Suzi Livingstone has created an auction in the UK that will send funds to The British Red Cross, with Life Support Japan (UK). Her site has info for submitting.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Have Patience

We are asking for everyone to hold off submitting new work for a few days. We have 3 new auctions in the pipeline, a new website and a new e-mail address. As you know this was created literally overnight, and the response has been truly unbelieveable. We thank you and ask that you hang in there...all will be announced shortly. This is a long-term effort.

Silent Auction info at Jennifer Schwartz Gallery for Life-Support Japan

If you want to participate in the silent auction you will need to get an exhibition ready piece to the gallery by no later than Friday March 18th by 5pm. The gallery's new location is

1000 Marietta Street St.
Suite 112
Atlanta, GA 30318

Additionally, we will need a web sized .jpg (72dpi 1000px at the long edge) to be sent ASAP. Please include all information needed for the piece (artist name, title, year, edition, size, suggested starting price for the auction) Please be reasonable with the size of pieces (nothing larger than 50x50), as we will need wall space to display everyone's work. Framed pieces are preferred, but since its a rush as long as it is "exhibition quality" it should be ok.

Wall Space on-line Print Sale

Hello and thank you all for your generosity and desire to submit a print to our online print sale for Life Support Japan.
Because of the overwhelming response to our call, the gallery is getting submissions every few minutes, we have currently over 200 artists waiting in the que to go up onto the site. We will be rotating works over the coming days. We hope to catch up enough in the next few days to be able to warn you when your print will be released.

This is what we are asking artists who wish to participate to commit to -
Produce an edition of 10 images, on paper no larger than 8.5x11. I am asking you to produce the prints. If you cannot, please contact us and we will see if we can help out on that. I cannot at this time say that will happen, so we are asking for you to commit to producing the images.

to send us a jpg - we ask for the following information and format.
jpg label - artist last name_title_year.jpg
we need the Title of the image, Date produced and how the print will be printed.

please send the jpg to us at life.support@wall-spacegallery.com

We will only ask for the printed materials if they sell. The gallery will contact you and ask you to send them to us in Santa Barbara where we will pack and ship them to the purchasers.

if you have any questions about this - please contact us via email. I can't handle all the phone calls for this and the gallery business. We will get back to you, but it may take us a few hours.

We plan on having this be a long term project, not a short term fix to help Japan. To this end we have a website that we are producing, life-supportphoto.com. Because this happened so quickly, we haven't yet finished the website. When we do, we will let you all know.

Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this huge outpouring of support in this effort to help.

I am so grateful to be part of this tremendously generous community.

crista.

The Site and The Goals

Please use this link in your promotions...the auction will eventually have it's own site address:
http://www.wall-spacegallery.com/displayShow.php?showID=122&collection=3

Here are the organizations that will benefit from our sales...
1. DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL http://www.directrelief.org/EmergencyResponse/2011/JapanEarthquakeTsunami.aspx?referrer=japanearthquake As information about the extent of destruction in Japan emerged throughout the day, Direct Relief’s partners in other Pacific Rim countries reported insignificant damage and no loss of life, which was a concern as the tsunami traveled across the Pacific.

2. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY https://www.habitat.org/cd/giving/one/donate.aspx?link=353

We are working towards a 100% donation, if we can get donations of shipping supplies or any financial help towards shipping costs we will reach that goal, but at this time, it may be closer to 95%...

We will be contacting you for SOLD prints in a few weeks...please make sure the quality of your prints are excellent.

Also, if you live in the Los Angeles or Santa Barbara area and would like to help with the packing and shipping sometime in April (after Photolucida), please e-mail me directly:
alinesmithson@yahoo.com

Please send questions my way, and let Crista spend her energies on the auction.

Thank you SO much!
Aline

About Life Support Japan

Natural disasters happen all the time, like landslides, floods, earthquakes. We live on a planet that isn't static. Friday, March 11th, we witnessed a natural disaster with a very human toll. The earthquake in Japan was of such magnitude that even the most prepared nation in the world to handle a disaster of this type was overwhelmed. It wasn't the earthquake alone, which was devastating enough but watching a 30 foot high wall of mud and debris wipe entire communities away was beyond any ability I personally had to comprehend.

I had to do something. Aline Smithson, one of our gallery artists wanted to do something too. Ryan Nabulsi and Jennifer Schwartz joined the effort. Soon I was hearing from every part of our creative community that we wanted to reach out to help the people of Japan. Life Support Japan was created to bring assistance to those in Japan who need it.

We have selected two charities to benefit from the sales of these limited edition prints.

Direct Relief International, http://www.directrelief.org/ for help with medical supplies.
Direct Relief works closely with the United Nations (U.N.) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA), which has activated to assemble the international response. Direct Relief has mobilized and staged materials at our headquarters, which are standing by ready for airlift to Japan.

Habitat for Humanity Japan, http://www.habitat.orgto/ help in the rebuilding of communities in and around Sendai and northern Japan.

Artists from around the globe have donated limited editions, over 300 to date, and we will be consistently updating the images available.

Galleries from around the US are banding together for a series of benefits, for these two and other charities to benefit relief efforts in Japan. We will be posting information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your support and for being part of a global community.

Crista Dix + wall space gallery.
